Best HDTV – Factors to Consider

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Are you looking for the best HDTV for your home? If so, it’s a good idea to compare HDTV models and read HDTV reviews. It helps to consider these factors, too.

Picture quality – Judging the picture quality of an HDTV is no different from that of any other. Take your time staring at the screen so you can observe the clarity and the sharpness of the images, as well as the vividity of the colors, as the picture changes. Experiment with the various picture modes and settings, too.

Key features – The features of an HDTV can contribute to picture quality, too, particularly the resolution and noise reduction capability. Look out for the type of backlight, as well along with the processor and other special add-ons, keeping in mind that the best HDTV usually has the best features.

Ports – Remember that you need to attach other equipment to your HDTV, so make sure there’s a place to attach them to. Take a look at the back or the sides for ports, such as HDMI ports and DVI-D ports which you can use for connecting HDTV tuners, Blu-Ray and DVD players, and your computer.

Type – There are four main types of HDTV – CRT, LCD, Plasma and Rear Projection. Each of these is based on a different type of technology, and therefore have their own pros and cons. If you want something thin or energy-efficient, you can go with an LCD HDTV. If you want a wider viewing angle because of your spacious living room, you can opt for a Plasma HDTV. And if you really want the best images, you can choose a Rear Projection HDTV, if you can afford one, that is.

Size – Where will you put your HDTV? Answer this question and you should be able to decide on the screen size. Small HDTVs are ideal for bedrooms, while the larger ones are best reserved for living rooms and home theatres. Still, no one’s stopping you if you can afford a 50-inch TV to place in your bedroom.

Brand – Do you have a preferred brand or one that you trust? What is the brand of your other appliances? Answering these questions should help you in narrowing down your choices, too, although brand is not as important as other factors in determining the best HDTV.

Price – Last but not the least, take the price tag into consideration. In fact, some consider the price to be the primary factor, since this is also the most common obstacle for those wanting to buy an HDTV. The more you’re willing to spend, the higher your chances are of getting the best HDTV, one that will truly give you a great viewing experience to keep you glued to the screen.
